Our business began in 1990
in Woodbury, Vermont under the name of Greenstar Playhouse in honor of the Green Star Theater that Sarah belonged to as a child. It was changed to Woodbury Strings and moved from Woodbury to Montpelier and then to Chittenden County, finally settling in Winooski, Vermont in 2018. The business returned to the name Green Star Fiddle Lessons to commence its online outreach to those beyond the Vermont border in March of 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and has now finally returned back to the original Green Star Playhouse to reflect the rebranding of the business back to being a promotion of a combination of early family arts activities and products. Sarah, and her husband John who also teaches fiddle, have returned to in person lessons and group teaching during the summer of 2021 which can be supplemented with online lessons when family members are sick.
Sarah Hotchkiss has directed and organized numerous groups and camps in Vermont including being the founder and director of the Vermont Fiddle Orchestra 2003 - 2013; long time faculty of the Northeast Heritage Music Camp, 2005 - 2019; frequent teacher at Young Tradition Vermont Trad Camp and performer on their annual teacher/student showcase; and organizer of countless fiddle camps and classes in Northern Vermont and beyond, to name a few. She is most noted for her patient and intuitive ability to bring out the musicianship in beginners, no matter what their age and prior ability level. Now serving all of USA and beyond!
